It’s that time of year again… Literary award season. And 2014 looks like the year of the Japanese woman.
For the first time, not just one but two Japanese women writers have been nominated for the 2014 Independent Foreign Fiction Prize. The shortlist includes the story collection Revenge by Yoko Ogawa, translated by Stephen Snyder, and Strange Weather in Tokyo by Hiromi Kawakami, translated by me, Allison Markin Powell.
Over at the Best Translated Book Award, the 2014 fiction shortlist includes A True Novel by Minae Mizumura, translated by Juliet Winters Carpenter.
Best of luck to all the nominees!
A True Novel by Minae Mizumura, translated by Juliet Winters Carpenter, won first place in the 2014 Next Generation Indie Book Awards. Congratulations!
